Breakcore Ravepop

Pisstank is one of my favorite breakcore producers. He used to do stuff that was more pure digital noise and glitch, but in the past couple of years has been pumping out the ravey breakcore on Jason Forrest's Cock Rock Disco. (And actually, he runs his own label, Irritant, which has released lots of quality music by people like Kid606, Knifehandchop, Donna Summer, and Moblin.)

His most recent release is the 12" EP Ravecore Anthems, which has three of the most melodic yet assaulting breakcore tracks I've ever heard. While all three are solid, the first one, "Punching," is without a doubt the best. (NB: It used to have a much longer, more intense title. Feel free to Google it.)

With excellent production and an unstoppable melodic hook, this is ravecore at its finest. The hoover-ridden, gabber coda at the end isn't very poppy, but it definitely adds something, perhaps a reminder that this is a hardcore track and not just an early Wiggles song.

By the way, when I mentioned in the last post that "Your Smile" by College was my most played mp3, I was looking at my Last.fm account. Just checked my iTunes, which I've used for much longer than Last.fm, and turns out I've listened to this Pisstank track over a hundred more times.

No joking, this is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Pisstank - Punching

Moment of Pop Bliss:
01:31:03 - "Oh, you just got your ass kicked at school? Here, have some cotton candy."
01:50:62 - "And here's a cherry popsicle to go with it."
02:33:49 - "Now, for the next minute, you will be repeatedly run over by an ice cream truck and dragged away to Pop Heaven."
